    Hi all,

I'm looking for a jacket for commuting to work.

I don't want to spend more than 60euro max.

    Any recommendations?

    cheers.

Hi Robert, I currently have two jackets on the go at the moment that I can tell you about.

I have the Altura Night Vision wind proof (http://www.eurocycles.ie/Clothing_-and-_Performance_Wear/Jackets_Windproof/Altura_Night_Vision_Windproof_Jacket/3928_p.aspx), which is ok/good. It is very visible, however I find to be a fairly billowy fit and also doesn't have as many pockets as I would like, or enough straps for pulling it tighter around the cuffs/bottom etc. But it's a perfectly servicable jacket, the material is excellent completely windproof as it says. But maybe not as many features as I would like.

My preferred jacket is this though, the Polaris Quantum (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=45403), which I bought second hand from a guy on this forum. It's a bit more expensive, but a bit better in every way I think. It's alot more visible, waterproof, has a hood, more pockets and straps, a tight fit. All in all a really great jacket I've found. The only thing I'll say is that it isn't incredibly robust. I know it's a bit outside your budget, but if you come across one second hand like I did then its quite a good jacket.

Keep your eyes on the adverts forum here!

I picked one of these toward end of the winter, great jacket at keeping out wind, cold and rain. If using in summer though it might get a bit sticky! Also it is a bit over budget. I made the mistake of buying a few light jackets first which turned out to be a complete waste of time in hindsight!

I had the Altura Night Vision one , terrible jacket , boil in the bag jobby , even when it was close to 0 degrees

Upgraded to the Altura pocket rocket and its the best jacket I've bought , light weight breathable and very waterproof

well worth the extra few quid

It's a tiny bit above your price range, but this is absolutely brilliant. Best piece of cycling kit I own - Endura jacket.

I wear it everyday on my 20km commute in winter/spring. It's not a water proof jacket (Buy a plastic sheet if you want one of those), although you still don't get wet in a drizzle. This is a snug fit like a jersey, wind resistant and fleece lined. With just a base layer I'm good with temperatures plus or minus zero degrees. When morning temperatures go above 12, then I usually switch to a jersey over a base layer.

I've been using it now since Oct 2009, and it's still perfect apart from a slight hole around the cuffs, but nothing too major.

It comes with three rear pockets, which is handy if you need it for a longer spin. It also has a front zip pocket with a cloth for cleaning glasses inside. Also has zips underneath the sleeves for ventilation. So good I'm thinking of buying another just incase it goes out of stock and I have another for a couple of years down the line.

I wear a Merino wool zip-up jersey. Wear it pretty much year 'round, adding base layers if it's cold. I have a cheapo Aldi or Lidl rain jacket if it's pelting down, but the merino is pretty shower proof and it dries quick.

    These look nice > http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=62890

Have that jacket for the past 6 or so months now.
    Superb.

I've used a Boards jacket for commuting for a couple of years now. Not the most waterproof save for a light drizzle, but it is really really warm and a good fit.

Dunno how much they are now, but it's the only jacket I've stuck with. Durable too, had a few slips on ice in winter (well, 2...) and the material has held up well.

I'm not sure whether you're serious or just ironic :)
Anyways believe me or not: 20C is perfect for cycling :]
I know that - where you stand depends on where you sit.

Not great for tanning though, I'm turning white again.

Have the tour de Connemara coming up soon and was wondering what your views are on this jacket for the price?

    http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_805419_langId_-1_categoryId_212566#BVRRWidgetID

Any better suggestions for the same price?
