Go into the BIOS and see if the hard disk is detected.

Looks like a failed hard disk, or controller failure

I'd return it if its under warranty, sounds to me like the disk drive has failed, it can happen. You can run diagnostics if you like yourself to confirm this, download the Ultimate Boot CD, burn it on a CD (on a working computer) and boot off it (as if to install Windows), navigate to HDD>Diagnosis and pick your drives manufacturers utility and run a scan. If your unsure about your HDD manufacturer, you can use ViVARD which is very good and included on ubcd

Laptop taking a knock en route would be more like it....check the connection if it doesn't goose your warranty.

New Lappy + Blue screen = Return...for me.

It could well be the issue that the drive has become dislodged, although I'd let warranty sort it rather than opening it up,

The HP site asks you to run a hard drive test for Error 3F0.

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01443317&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5218698&tmp_track_link=ot_search#N268
Many computer problems are related to soft failures on the hard drive. The comprehensive portion of the HP Hard Drive Self Test repairs soft errors on the hard drive, but does not report the errors. After the test completes, be sure to restart the computer to determine if the test repaired any problems you are experiencing with your computer.
If the computer has two hard drives, you should select the multi-bay test option and test each drive separately.
Plug the AC Adapter into the computer.
Turn off the computer and wait 5 seconds.
Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the f10 key to enter the BIOS Setup menu.
Use the Right Arrow or Left Arrow keys to navigate through the menu selection to locate the Primary Hard Drive Self Test option. Depending on your BIOS, this may be located below either Diagnostics or Tools .
Select Primary Hard Drive Self Test , and then press the Enter key to start the test.

NOTE:The exact wording of the option for your particular BIOS may be slightly different.
The Hard Drive Self Test performs a Quick Test followed by a Comprehensive Test . During each test, the window displays a status bar and an estimated time to completion.
If any test fails , contact HP service and support for instructions on how to order a replacement hard drive.
If all of the tests pass, the hard drive is not damaged. As a rule, HP will not replace a hard drive under warranty that does not fail the HP Hard Drive Self Test.
If there is no physical problem with the hard drive or memory, then try reinstalling your Windows operating system to troubleshoot the problem.

    I've a new HP Pavillion G7.

Showing a fan error (90B) at startup.

Spoke to HP who asked me to perform a BIOS update, which I'd already done.

Didn't solve the issue, it's a hardware failure.

Is it just the fan revving up? Some laptops do that when you turn them on..

Install ccleaner and click tools, startup on the right hand side and see how many and what programs are there

absolutely. All those programs are loaded at startup. You should see a dramatic improvement in that alone.

Disable what you want via ccleaner then if you find something isn't working as before you can reenable it. Let us know do you get a faster load

Once you're done with your startup manager, proceed to blackviper.om for some Windows service tweaking. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,794 ✭✭✭cookie1977

    http://www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/black-vipers-windows-7-service-pack-1-service-configurations/ is great
He's been around years but with windows 7 I dont think there's that much to disable on the "safe" setup. Do be careful and note what you change so you can undo later if something stops working

Give bluescreen view a run and see what it finds since the HDD came back all clear.

I think you may have gotten yourself a lemon there: BSODs, whining noises... Stuff like that doesn't exactly inspire confidence in a new laptop.
