    Looking for some advice.

Have recently started dating a guy. He's lovely and we get on really well. The only thing is I normally go out with guys my own age he's a bit older than me, I'm 22, he's 27.

All his siblings are older than him and married, whereas mine are all younger than me and still in school so we are quite different looking at it that way.

Is it too much of an age gap or I am being paranoid is age only a number? Has anyone else out there been in a similar situation, did the age gap every become an issue?

    All advice appreciated :)!!

25 years might be an age gap, five is not.
If this is the only issue you have in your relationship then there is no issue.

I completely agree with the above. 5 years really is nothing, and it just seems a bit more to you 'cos you're the oldest in your family and he's the youngest in his.

Keep on dating and having fun and see how it goes, don't worry about the age at all! And take the piss out of him when he hits 30! :)

OP I'm the same as you, with a slightly bigger age gap.
I'm 31 and my bf is 39, about to turn the big 40!
He is the youngest in his family, and I am the eldest in mine. There is no issue with us about our different ages, and I openly tease him about being the 'old man' and he calls me a big kid :D

Five years is not a big deal at all, and shouldn't cause any issues for you.
If you are having fun, then carry on regardless, age is just a number and only an issue if you make it one.

It's only a problem if either of you make it one. If you are both having fun and enjoying dating then don't worry about anything else. Just get on with having fun!

Not being funny hon but what on earth does the above matter or what relevance does it have to the dynamic between you two? Five years is no age-gap at all, same between me and my fiance, I don't even see it as an age-gap. As Beruthiel said it may present problems if there was a gap of a few decades but five years is nothing. Don't overthink things or make this an issue where it's not! :)

That age difference is very little. Men and women mature at different ages 22 and 27 would make your maturity to be about the same.

be happy you have found a lovely guy and enjoy it

I wouldn't worry about it. I have the same age gap with my bf, I'm 23 and he's almost 28. If you're having fun and enjoying each other's company then nothing else really matters. :)

When i went out with my ex, i was 25 going on 26 and she had just turned 21. Now when it was just us two we got on well but the strain came on the relationship when it came to going out with her friends. i was working in a job i didnt like, becoming settled in myself a bit and becoming sick of the nightclub/pub scene at that time whereas she and her mates were all in college with not a care in the world and having the craic. Her friends didnt exactly take our relationship seriously and i felt never really wanted me in their group and to be honest i felt that i had better things to do then go out sober at the weekend and meet people that i didnt really click with, so eventually it became clear we wanted different things as we had different lives.
i was similar to your BF, that i had older siblings wheras like you she was oldest of a young family.

Its not a deal breaker by any means but it is definately something to consider.Depending on what you do on a daily basis could decide whether your lives are poles apart or not.
