If the shop he is getting them from has a branch in Dublin they will do it no bother and send the measurements on.

go to Marks and Spensers and pretend you're browsing there. they'll measure you up if you ask and leave you to do your own thing, no pressure

Actually, we've the same issue... A number of our party live abroad, do we just ask them to get professionally measured by a tailor and send us their digits?
What is actually measured for a suit? i.e. is it possible to get someone at home to measure them? chest, inseam, waist, length, shoulder...?

Ask them to get it done by a tailor. Can only imagine the results of most people having a go at it at home! ;)

Same issue, in laws coming from abroad, some of my side are in the UK. Get measurements done by a tailor or another suit hire shop and send them down.

I was told by our suit hire shop (in Dublin) that if they were around a day or two before they would make sure they had a spread of sizes available in case anyone grew or shrank an inch or two round the waist !

I suppose that's the best idea... I'm just wondering if some of them may find it as difficult as the OP to get someone to do it without lying about buying a suit...

ooh... that sounds like it would require someone who knows what they're doing! I'd be confused as to where to measure the length from or how low it should go even...
