Hey everyone. :) I'm starting college next year and hope to study in Galway. I live in Dublin and also get the special rate grant and I was hoping to spend most of this on accommodation and my college fees. After reading this thread however I've noticed that this grant comes in very late in the academic year. Does this happen for everyone and if not, do you think I'd be able to get it in time to pay for my accomm and fees? Thanks.

The earlier you have your complete application (including any and all supporting documentation) submitted, the sooner you can have a result and receive the money. It is worth collecting documentation as early as you can before the application needs to be submitted.

The timing of the money can vary from place to place, however for paying your accomodation I would suggest you find a way to pay for that up front and then use the grant money to cover that debt at a later point. The fees will be covered by a letter from the grant authority, however, the earlier you give them everything, the earlier they can come to a desicsion and issue such a letter.
