hi all, bear with me im not a computer whizzkid.
Basically we upgraded to Microsft 2007 in work. I work in quality and i need to be able to search the system effectively. On the old system i had a search buddy and say i wanted to search for a document containing the word 15kp23, for axample that was no problem. Now with the 2007 the search is not effective unless your searching for an exact document full name. Can anybody out there help me. can the old search buddy (he was a dog dumb i know), be brought back on 2007

The search box in windows vista/7 still allows you to search in file contents but it is set to search by filename by default.

Open "Computer" , click "Tools" from the menu bar at the top of the window and select "Folder Options". Click on the "Search" tab.

Under What to Search click "Always search file names and contents"

Under How to search, make sure "Include subfolders" and "Find partial matches" are ticked.

    Then click Apply and OK.

When you search you should be able to search in document contents though it will be a bit slower.

The best "content seach buddy" (which doesn't depend on file indexing) is still Agent Ransack.

People who feel uncomfy installing a product called "Agent Ransack" at work, may use File Locator Lite instead, same program, different name and logo. ;)
