how many lumens would be needed for lamping around 150 yards?was looking at a few sites today but cant figure out.a fella told me 30 lumens will effectively light up 80 yards, but seems a bit low power?

30 lumens sounds very low to me, maybe if it was focused into a tight beam

thats what i was thinking.id imagine dat would be no better than an ever ready torch with a tight beam

Its has as much to do with type of LED emmiter as lumens.
An torch with a deep reflector and an 200 Lmn R5 emmiter will throw light as far as 700 Lmn MC-e or Xml-t but in a narrower beam with less light spill and consume less Milliamps when switched on.

250-300 yards, is that to spot, or shoot?

To spot realy , i can see a gate at that distance but eyes and anything reflective way further than that . There is a downside to it doh , when on full zoom it has a square beem and not a circular one, but i dont mind that .

I thought as much. So, how far can you positively ID a fox by it's body?

Within 100-150 depending on the charge and the nights conditions

I've an EagleTac torch that'll do about 130 yards through the scope, just estimating that as I've not mounted and shot it but looked through the scope with torch on. Only use it for the shotgun though as it's perfect for that.

I have several torches and something I can definitely recommend is getting a Cheap solarforce (€20 posted for a 500lm one) or an even cheaper ultrafire etc. And putting a convex lens on it. (Also buyable through ebay for <€5 posted) It gives it a square beam but it's good to about 400ft.

I got 2 of these the other day and tried to mount 1 of them to the scope last night. but was getting a lot white out, ( too bright to see out the scope), Any idea on how to over come this.

There are articles on line that go into the amount of light a human eye can process in conjunction with the amount of light processed by a scope. The eye can only handle so much so a scope on high power may be of a disadvantage. There fore you may get better results if you dial down the zoom.

This is a bit off point bit may help some one-

    Difference Between Lumens and Candlepower

If you are shopping for a handheld light whether it be a flashlight or spotlight, you will notice that the packaging will use terms like lumens or candlepower to measure the brightness of the light generated. However, what do the terms lumens and candlepower actually mean and how are they related.

    Candlepower

The term candle power is most commonly used when describing spotlights. Candlepower is the measure of radiance produced by the light at its source . As the name suggests it is a measurement based on the light produced by a single candle. For instance, a 2 million candlepower spotlight creates the equivalent radiance of 2 million candles at its source.

    Lumens

Lumens is commonly used when describing the brightness of flashlights and now even spotlights. Lumens is a measurement of the light that illuminates an area. It is based on the illumination of a 1 square foot area one foot away from one candle.

    Comparing Lumens and Candle Power

A simple formula exists for comparing candlepower against lumens. To determine the lumens in multiply the candlepower by 12.57 or rather 1 candlepower equals 12.57 lumens. To determine the candlepower, dived the lumen by 12.57.

Ex: A 2 million candlepower spotlight equals 25,140,000 lumens. While a flashlight with 150 lumens will equal 11.93 candlepower.
