Civil Ceremony Readings

    Hi,

I am getting married (Civil Ceremony) in Malta next month and I just realized that we will need to add in some readings to the service. Our wedding planner hasn't actually advised us on the format or content of the ceremony yet so H2B and I thought it best to come up with ideas of our own. I have three ridiculous questions!:

    1) Are the readings supposed to be done by a friend/family member or by the couple?

    2) How many readings are normally part of a civil service?

    3) Are there traditional readings that appear in every ceremony? The internet seems flooded with the same ones and I would like our reading/s to be unique but I have come across some really lovely readings but I would like to stand out a bit if possible!

What ever help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

    1) Whoever you like

    2) How long do you want to make it? We used two "normal" length ones and a short one which I just had to have.

    3) No, you can use whatever you like so long as it's not religious and fits the tone of the occasion.

I was thinking one normal length one and a short one. So that should be ok. We have been unaware of all the traditional protocols and have upset a few people so it's good to try and keep it on track! Thanks for you help!

If you're having your civil ceremony in Malta, the Irish rules about non-religious readings only may not apply. Try to find out this information from them.
Otherwise, I'm afraid if you get reading recommendations on a forum like this one, it's because it's been done. The best thing you can do with readings is keep an eye out for something you like when you're reading books or poems.
There are many American sites as well which have lovely readings that are not as common in Ireland. Maybe try those?
