    Hi Guys

Have been thinking about a nice 'authentic' Turkish kebab, tried one before that a friend ordered in from a restaurant some years ago along with other bits and pieces and the food was delish. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a nice restaurant / take-away that serves good quality food, i'm not looking for a fast food version like abrakebabra or some like it hot, I really want to taste some nice Turkish food but wouldn't have a clue about where to go to find it. I'm living on the northside but would travel for the right place. Any suggestions would be gratefully welcomed :-)

Isn't there something in the Epicurean Food Hall in Liffey Street? I remember having a nice Doner Kebab there, but it's a good while ago

Thanks for that, do you remember if it was restaurant quality or fast food style??

The one in the Epicurean Food Hall is fast food. One of the worst kebabs that I've ever had in Dublin.

Turkish food would really be very similar to Persian or Lebanese, the foods of the regions overlap with one another quite a bit.

I would recommend the Cedar Tree for probably the best Arab food I've had outside the middle east, Rotana Café is fantastic also and it's BYO, which is always a bonus, another plus for Rotana is the fact that you can have Shisha after your meal.

tfak85, thanks for those recommendations, would love to try them but have never heard of those restaurants, where are they based?

    Thanks again :-)

Hi the Cedar tree is here

    Zatoon is here

I have not tried Cedar tree , but its been around for a very long time .

I always figured with the Irish connection with the Leb ( Peace keeping and all that ) that this was why there were a few restaurants around.

I also would love to see an authentic Turkish restaurant in Dublin. I'll follow this thread to see what else comes up.

I agree that Rotana is excellent and while many of the flavors/ingredients/cooking techniques overlap, it is Lebanese and not Turkish.

Funny aside - I just searched Google for Rotana Cafe to remind myself what is on the menu and their search results page description shows as follow:
File. Error, SHUTDOWN is in progress. Login failed for user 'u1069247_rotana'. Only administrators may connect at this time.
I wonder what happened when Google tried to spider their website :)

I forgot to mention that we are fortunate to be living in Dublin in that you can fly direct to Istanbul every day all year long on Turkish Airlines.
OK it is not the budget option but sometimes it pays to go directly to the source for the best dining experience :)

I wonder if Ryanair will add Turkey to its list of destinations as it has become extremely popular over the years. I think Aer Lingus may go to Izmir in the summer months but not entirely sure.

Tastes must be different, I quite liked the Doner Kebab there, but maybe it has to do with the fact, that it was not busy that day and they didn't rush through cooking the food

I brought my Turkish sister- in- law to that Istanbul place in the Epicurean and she took one look at the food and decided it wasn't for her, not very nice or Turkish lookin'!

@Brazzer Rotana Café is just on the town side of Portobello Bridge!
