Hey guys. I'm looking for a drop bar bike that will take rack and guards for commuting. Specialized Tricross, Surly Long Haul Trucker, Trek road bike, Genesis Day One or what have you. I ride a 58cm Trek, so 57-59cm frame size. Budget of €500 or so. Maybe more for something nice...

Could I interest you in my little friend?

    It's a Specialized Tricross 56cm or 58cm (I can't seem to find which[!], I just know it fits me and I'm 5'11).

It's very comfy bike and can take long miles without a problem. I did a 6000km tour across the U.S. on her in 2010, plus flights there and back, without anything negative to comment.

Last month I found a crack in the rear rim so obviously that will be replaced beforehand, or I can let you do that yourself and we can cut a deal.

    Let me know anyway - I'd be looking for c. €400 - I think that's fair.

I have her set up different to the pic but the general specs are:
    - Front carbon fork
    - FSA vero cranks
    - Shimano Tiagra shifters
    - Shimano Deore XT rear derailleur
    - Shimano Deore 11-34t rear sprocket; triple on the front
    - Conti Gatorskin tyres

    Thanks

I saw that alright. I've tested a 56cm Tricross and it was too small, so I'd definitely need a 58. I'm 6'2" so yours may well be the 56 if it fits you well.

I'll have another look and see if I can find the size, or at least take some measurements for you...

Hi I have this for sale: http://www.adverts.ie/1199491
It's not strictly a tourer but have used it for some high speed touring with a minimal rear rack. It's a great bike and very good spec. I could drop the price a little to approach your budget but 570 is the lowest I could do. Cheers

So turns out Specialized don't make it easy to identify their frame sizes!

But measuring the head tube length according to the specs for that year's model - http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCProduct.jsp?arc=2007&spid=22307 - it is definitely a 58cm.

Let me know if you'd like to arrange a viewing. No win, no fee!

Hi mate. I was hoping for something with more road-centric gearing, but I'll certainly have a look. Send me a PM and let me know where you're based, and we can work something out.

@bogmanfan do hub gears interest you?

I have an On One Pompetamine Versa 11 (Large) I'm thinking of moving on to make space for something new.

Apologies, but I forgot to edit the thread. Got sorted with a Trek 1.5 in the end. Fitted rack and guards. Panniers soooo much better than a backpack. Looking forward to warm weather commuting now.
Mods, can you lock this thread please?
