has anyone noticed the appalling tailbacks approaching the roundabout coming from the east/tunnel? Last 2 days Ive had to queue for 20mins+ to get to exit/roundabout.previously used to take a bout 2 mins. Who is responsible for re-sequencing the lights(Which is what looks like has happened) and how can i contact them to tell them how i feel about them! It seems there are now tailbacks no matter what time you hit the roundabout(this morning was 9:50- hardly rush hour)

This morning (8:15ish) I was on the South Link heading east and I noticed that the queue went from the Kinsale Road back past the Bloomfield (Carragaline) intersection....

As as aside, I noticed that tha lights on the Kinsale Rd Roundabout were off Saturday morning. Is it related I wonder......

I noticed a difference the last two days, I hit it before 8am, but definitely a tailback where previously there would only be 5-10 cars in the queue.

I logged a call with the City Council, no idea if they'll do anything about it.
She claimed there had been zero complaints about it, hard to believe given the nature of the backlogs/ radio announcements etc.

    Anywho, FYI:

just read this on the Cork City.ie website for Sat 14th so theres the damn culprit alright- lights resequenced !

"Traffic Signals on Kinsale Road Roundabout will be turned off from 8-00am to 11-00 am to facilitate traffic signal maintenance (Transportation Division C.C.C.)."

But seeing as they have had to have cops on the roundabout for last 2 mornings gonna say this ones a failure! Will be ringing Anglesea street to give them my two cents!

Typical, they turn off the lights at peak time, what were they expecting.

I'm amazed such a minor thing caused the tailbacks I saw in the last two days.

No, the lights were off on Saturday morning, for ahem.. maintenance.
They look to have changed the sequence to give more priority to traffic entering the roundabout from the airport road, as opposed to those exiting the N25 heading East..

I wonder does someone working in the council live in Frankfield/ Airport road.. zero traffic queues there the last two days.

Yeah they have prioritised Frankfield side. Shocking, clog a national road to prioritise a side road. Thing is even if you could make an argument to ease access for Frankfield side(which if u live that side u could :)) you cant have it prioritised 24/7. i mean its only busy that side at peak time. Now the N25 is clogged all the time both peak and off peak as the major traffic volumes are coming along the N25

Yup, ridiculous shenanigans if it was intentional.
I would urge everyone to call the above number and complain, as they claimed I was the first, and they are unlikely to resolve it based on one complaint.

I have contacted them and also have mailed my entire building, they are getting lots of calls/e-mails now :p

Yeah, mental traffic there the last two days. Put it down to the schools being back, but seems it's the usual council morons earning their exorbitant salaries.....

I came down from the airport today and was surprised I got on the roundabout so quickly - usually it takes 2 traffic lihgt changes - this thread explains a lot.

What we might start to see now is people going over the flyover and trying to cut in to the togher road - the council have installed bollards to prevent people doing this but if you reverse back up the road you can get onto the togher road. I actually saw someone doing this recently

Or will it shove the carrigaline traffic across through frankfield to get down the airport hill?

Presume he means the South Ring.... </pedant>.

    ;)

It seems like there has been a significant chnage in the lights. They also seem to be monitoring this change. I have noticied some rubber strips on the Kinsale Rd also to monitor flow of traffic.

It's ridiculous though. Yesterday about 8.30, the traffic had backed up to the bridge over Douglas. Today, about 8.10, it was nearly back that far. Of course what makes it all worse is the ****ING MORONS who STOP on the driving lane (of what is effectively a motorway) to try to pull into the queue after skipping most of it.

    Thanks.

South Link road and South Ring road - They are all the bloody same to me....

To be very pedantic about it, it should be the N40......

Yeah, fine c. 8. Looks like the Frankfielders were rightfully relegated!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 106 ✭✭Sparkyd2002

just came through at peak time 8:45 and sailed through! Funny thing is the Frankfield side looked OK too. That said the lights have definately been resequenced again as the lights approaching the RB were green all the way up. TG, if I had to go through that day after day id be applying for a new job elsewhere!

So they've fixed this and (according to colleagues) they've ****ed up the Jack Lynch Tunnel Northbound at peak....

I often wonder do Cork City Council do ***ANY*** testing before making changes to traffic flow that potentially delay and inconvenience thousands of commuters every day. Your taxes hard at work.... right there...

yeah i noticed the northbound traffic was crap this morning.Wonder ar ethey just playing games and experimenting with the ligh sequencing#?
