Any one know of anybody in midlands who castrate bulls with the band rather than budizzo.

Want to get someone to do it rather than buy the thing from conn agri. sort of job that could work out very expensive if you dont do right.

Any thoughts in general on banding. I did it before and foung it very good but used to do it myself and one lad had a ball slip out after a few days and it got infected. sore dose even thinking about it:)

They need to be vaccinated for Tetanus and Blackleg and have the immunity fully up and running before you band them.

Was that the callcrate bander that the ball slipped out of or the cheaper one that you wrap the band around the back of your hand rather than the ratchet used on the callcrate system.

I use the burdizzo but was looking at that callcrate bander except the bands are quiet expensive and as Grey sides has pointed out you have to administer 2 x tetanus toxoid shots

No it was the cheaper one that you wrap around. Got around 35 done and had one only that gave any bother.

It a lot cleaner job and handier than the burdizzo i reckon.

If I could manage them I prefer the burdizzo not a great fan of banding any time I had it done I always had issue's as well the cattle went back more than the burdizzo

One slip up out of 35 is not bad when trying a new technique ... Keep at it fella
