Hi Guys, do any of you know if boiled eggs are bad for your cholesterol. I've read mixed reviews about this. I've read that the yoke does contain bad cholesterol? What your views?

I am far from being an expert, but have read on here before that just because there is cholesterol in the egg, doesn't mean that you will get bad cholesterol youself from eating it. I won't go into further detail as I will struggle to back it up properly, but that what I know in an egg-shell...

Yeah I've read something similar to that. Cheers for your reply.

I'd generally have at least 4 eggs a day.

I recently got my bloods done and my cholesterol was the best my GP has seen in a long time, think it was 2.8 if I remember correctly.

I am only 24 but weigh a lot lol. My BMI, which to be honest BMI is bs especially for a person playing sport competitively, would be outrageous.

Whatever you eat that should be at its average, same is very apt with eggs, if you don’t eat it then you surely missing out some calories and if have too much then it could get worse.

I take all your points. I happen to like eggs so I eat them daily usually 2/3 a day. My cholesterol is very high and the doctors don't know why. I'm waiting to see a specialist but in the mean time I've been trying to lower it. I read that the cholesterol in eggs is contained in the 'yoke' so I considered to stop eating the yoke and just eat the egg whites which contain mostly protein and not much else.

Yes there is cholesterol in the egg yoke, if you'r worried then just eating the egg whites would reduce your cholesterol intake. From what I've read on previous posts you can buy egg whites alone in Dunnes/Tesco in the refrigeration section.

Did your Doctor give you any dietary advice? How long will you be waiting to see the specialist?

No didn't get dietary advice to be honest I don't think I need it. Im 28, I eat right, don't smoke, not over weight, go to the gym regularly, etc etc
I've had blood tests done, an ECG, 24 blood pressure monitor and I'm due a heart ultrasound in September. I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high triglycerides in my blood. Doc doesn't know why so that's why I'm booked for the Echocardiography(I think that's what its called).

Well best of luck in Sep & I hope all is ok, you'll just have to wait and see what he/she says & just answering your original Q, the cholesterol in eggs is in the yoke.

    Two things

    a) Total cholesterol doesn't really matter, in most cases, in terms of overall health
    b) Dietary cholesterol, i.e. cholesterol that you eat, contributes only a very small fraction to your total cholesterol levels
    c) see a)

    Eat eggs. Don't worry.
