How much?

On average, how much would it be for a 18 year old male with a lerners permit to go on his parents insurance as a named driver on a 1 litre 2001 Yaris?

    Would I be looking at €100, €300, €500 or €1000+ extra?

Just a ball park figure is all I'm after.

Actually, is it possible to get a NCB also while being a named driver?

No one here can tell you, a two minute call by your parents to their insurer would answer that for you.

And no you do not earn NCB. However some insurers do take named driving experience into account when calculating your premium.

I'm in college and I'm also trying to get them to let me go on their insurance, I don't want to give them any extra hassle. It would just be a pain, ringing my mam, then asking her to ring them etc. I'd do it if I know who her insurers were.

If I get a discount for being a named driver, that's effectively a NCB. :)

OP, your mam or dad have to do it. Even if you find out who their insurance company is, they will not talk to you about your parents car insurance policy with them, due to data protection laws.

It's not an NCB though. Some insurers will just recognise your experience. But NCB is different. When going for insurance in your own name you will have 0 NCB.:)

You can fill in online forms on most insurers websites and they'll give you an estimate.

This is only true for quote in your own name; the OP is looking for a quote as a named driver on his parents policy.

And besides, online quotes for Learner Drivers are crap, ringing is far better;)

As already said, your parents will need to contact insurance company.
I got my 17year old son onto my insurance last month and price went from €425 to €1040. He is on his first learner permit. The car is a skoda octavia 1.4litre.
    Hope that helps.
