The roads on the 2012 Frank O'Rourke circuit are in great condition, having recently been patched/resurfaced.
It's a great race on a challenging course, and one of the longest A4 races of the year.
The combined A2/A3 race will include prizes for unplaced A3 riders as well as the usual overall prizes. Ladies & Vets will also have separate prizes.

Remember also, the race is less than 2 Hours from Dublin!!

    Info here:http://www.wexfordwheelers.com/index.php/2012/04/6th-frank-o-rourke-memorial-race-promoted-by-wexford-wheelers/

*Please note prize fund is actually €1,500, not €1,000 as stated in the link.

Must say i am really looking forward to this one i've been dying to try a longer spin than the typical ~50km A4 races

Also maps links arent working for me(strava says not found and garmin wont show the map) though they were working earlier in the week

    thanks Patrick,

Did not realise that the Strava link was not working .

Where the red arrow is, on the player, is the approximate location of the start.

Previously we had complaints when the circuit was 66 K, fortunatly we were able to add in another 12K.

the Frank o Rourke is relativly flat. compensating with the maximum length permitted for a4 and A2/A3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,138 ✭✭✭buffalo

hmm... I was looking forward to the 80k A4, but a combined A2/A3 100km race for my first A3 outing? I'm having second thoughts!

You'll have no problem. Sure, your second ever bike race was a five-day second cat stage race which you motored round! Just leave the haversack, canvas tent, primes stove etc in the car this time...

Actually it was my fifth race, but you've got a point. :D Just don't want to overcook the legs (especially not on the primus!).

Dont let 20 K scare you !!! its more like a track event compared with the Kevin Hammond or the Tommy Sheehan.

Think of it as flatter and therefore faster, but longer to compensate for the lack of hills...........

Significant section is on the N25, main New Ross to Rosslare road, great surface with a good hard shoulder.

What are facilities like, changing rooms, showers etc?

Will we get a cuppa and a sambo before our long journey home? Is there a McD's nearby (it's ok, don't they sponsor another south east club?)

At last a good, max length A4 race. Any hills?

There's a McDonalds fairly nearby in Drinagh, a few minutes drive out towards Rosslare, on the main road.

Generally speaking it's a slightly hilly area, but since it doesn't seem to go onto Forth Mountain (my old home!) there won't be a serious climb.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,270 ✭✭✭spyderski

Mc Donalds is a bit out of the way - there'll be plenty of tae & sangwidges in Camross hall after.
No real hills to speak of, but 2 tough little "bumps" and a long easy drag on the main road. Still, after 5 laps there'll be plenty of ppl feeling it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 511 ✭✭✭531

I did this race a few years ago (may have been first Frank O'Rourke Memorial race). The surface was a bit rough on the drag, if I recall correctly. Has it been fixed as we've had a harsh Winter or two since then?

It was a good event, well marshalled, nice crowd. A beautiful, sunny day too. Will it be a sunny south east on Sunday?

Just to double-check Michael, sign-on would be closing at 12pm, aye?

Heading down from Dublin for this one and looking forward to it. 80kms for the A4s with a few bumps and drags into the mix should make things interesting. Fingers crossed we get the weather now.

Paganini? Don't they make bikes as well? Carbon fibre ice cream and cold, sweet, fattening frames?

They do make delicious stuff though (the desserts anyway, I've never eaten one of their frames).

I know A4s are the village idiots of the cycling world, essentially humoured in order to coax away our tenners to give to A1s, but some of us can read proper writing.

That may not be what you meant ;). Best of luck with it all tomorrow.

Thanks to the club for a well run event some big pot holes you had to be careful not to catch, the run in to the sprint was hairy as fu#k (A4) but i enjoyed it, super spread after, I didnt know their was a vets a4 prize

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 244 ✭✭lalorm

Headed to the start at 12:40 to find everyone gone! A4 was only supposed to start at 12:45 15mins after A3!!! Had to wait for them to come around after the first half lap to join them at the base of that hill. Apart from that it was a good event. Heavy roads especially on the run in to the finish which took the speed out of my legs. All good training. :)

A fine event: this route should suit all riders and the turnout was good and the feed afterwards top class. As for the A4 finish, I felt that the riders rode quite well in the conditions, as for the rest of the race also. With one notable exception: he got a prize but to be fair, he shall remain nameless. Perhaps the chap needs to learn a bit of ettiquette, as he nearly buried a number of riders throughout the race. I noticed some experienced heads having a word with him both during and after the race but to no avail. I'm sure he is delighted, and he got his prize but a rude awakening awaits in A3 if he upgrades. Don't mean to be ranting on especially since the A4 bunch seems more settled this season overall, less headbangers and one-day champions

Very well run race, good marshalling and good grub at finish. Agree with Sheepfield about one rider. I reckon we're on about the same rider. ;)

Ah go on, tell us who he is, or at least his club. I was too far back to see. Did the Commissaires see him?

Great race, the extra km's for the a4 race are telling in the legs this evening. Food at end hit the spot. Heard alot of complaints about the above nameless rider, he p#ssed alot of people off but I somehow managed to avoid him for the most part. The sprint was a bit hairy alright. Good course, well marshalled and potholes marked out.
