I've been searching for work for the past 6-7 months, applied for basically anything and everything, and last friday, I finally got a job, although its on 20hours a week, I was told at the interview that I can claim welfare for the money to be made up. I'm not from Ireland so I dont really understand what this is about. can anyone shed some light on it for me?

    Thanks

At the moment if you work say 3 days a week then you can claim for 3 days a week ( believe this is due to change in June when you can only claim for 2 days a week ) But basically you need to fill in a form weekly stating what days you worked and send it into the social

Its days worked not hours if you work>3 days you will not get anything unless you are on jobseekers allowance and one of the days is Sunday. You do not say whether you have worked in Ireland before or if you have an entitlement to jobseekers benefit. Currently if you have and entitlement to JSB and work 3 days you will get 3/6ths of the personal rate that you are entitled to. From July it will be 2/5ths of the personal rate assuming that this legislation will apply to all claims and not just new claims after July.
If you are applying for JSA this is means tested and any means from employment will be assessed. You also so that your not from Ireland so you will also have to satisfy habitual residence criteria in order to receive JSA.
