Hi. I have a lexus (sadly) and the valve broke yesterday on one of the tyres (steel cap wouldn't twist open by hand, so petrol station man used an allen tool and the valve smashed). not the firat time this has happened. My problem (I think) is if i buy a new valve and get it fitted by a non-lexus service centre, then the valve transponder won't hook into the car software and i'll keep getting the dashboard light and beeping every 2 minutes, so unlikely to pass NCT even if the tyre pressure is perfactly OK. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    1. Get petrol station man to pay up.
    2. Get it fitted by your local centre and then coded by Lexus. Not sure if this will save you much?
    3. Does the spare have a transponder? Could use this and should be coded already.

    Thanks Padraig

    1. Petrol man not too friendly and was a bit put off.
    2. Spare dpesn't have a transponder
    3. Lexus quote "off the wall" to replace valve >460€s
    4. Got the part number but can't find it online except from Russia ...not sure about that.
    5. Guys at work are looking at it for me

The problem is, whilst I (well the bank) own a lexus, i don't have the salary to go with it. And as for Lexus, they say that as it's out of warranty, i have to pay up. I accept the "out of warranty" principle, but they supply the steel caps and don't advise any further, i.e. you will need lubricant to open them if you don't want to end up in my situation with a bill in excess of €450!

You can get the sensors from the States a lot cheaper - under €100 a pop. I might be able to get a price for you from a US dealer if you want. Would just need coding then - which can't take more than a few minutes, so minimum labour charge (hour or half hour). Which model Lexus is it? I still say the petrol man should be paying - he broke it after all.......

edit: BTW I think you can turn the system off if you're happy not to have it reading the pressures for you.

    Padraig

the lads at work are looking at repairing the broken one as they don't think it's beyond redemption. I'll also get them to get rid of the pressure sensor, as it's an add-on that's a pain in these situations. Will keep you posted.
