Which mediums can be used for the LC practicals?

My problem is that my teacher says that we HAVE to use paint as we have to use colour, but I just saw that each exam paper says that we can do monochrome, so I am a bit confused right now. My best medium is sketching pencils, I can work fast and accurately with them, but I don't want to lose marks for not using colours so I am really confused about what is allowed and what isn't.

This is especially aimed at the imaginative composition/still life section, but knowing which mediums are allowed to be use for other sections would also be very helpful.
Any advise would be VERY appreciated.
    Thanks!

Suggest you post this in the LC forum under Edu. You are not supposed to put same posts in more than one forum, so I suggest you either ask this mod to move your post to LC, or ask the LC mod if it is ok to post.

I don't mind this thread remaining here as I think other students may be able to help you OP. It might be benificial to ask in the LC Forum also.

I'm afraid that it has been so long since I did my LC that I can't remember, but my advice would be not to focus so narrowly on monochrome, experiment with colour and different mediums - you may be surprised.

You could start with limiting yourself to a blue pencil for a change, it can make quite a dramatic difference to your interpretation of light when doing studies. Bring this into paint - use acrylics or watercolour to challenge yourself.

Oh sorry! I tend to have problems with orientating myself in a forum to which I am new, so I did not find the Leaving Certificate section of the forums until today.

Your tip on using the blue pencils sounds interesting, I will definitely look into it, so thanks! Monochrome is, by far, my best medium, but I will definitely try harder with acrylics now.
