Okay, so tomorrow I have my JC Music practical. All my songss are okay except for one bar where there is a high E, normally I can hit it but lately I can't. Would it be okay for me to play high c sharp instead or risk playing the high e? I have played the song with the high e but now I just can't hit it. What do you guys think I should do? I breath quickly, tighten my lips etc., I just can't hit it...

If it's on A Major, you might get away with it.

Play the E down an octave?

It sounds okay with the c sharp, I can't play it down as the bar is descending from high e to b. Are there any other fingerings for high e?

I don't play Trumpet, but a quick Google yields this. Hope you find it helpful :)

Yeah, I ended up using the first two valves, thanks. Ugh, I made loads of mistakes in my practical because I was really nervous. I was aiming for around 22/25 but now expecting 14/25... I know you don't get your practical back, thank god

Don't worry about it too much. They mark the practicals VERY generously. I thought I royally messed up in both my JC and LC but I got As in them both :D

Thanks, looking back on it now it wasn't too bad, sight reading was very easy. People who did sight reading said it was easy for their instrument so I'd recommend anyone to go for that

I play the cornet mysef, but I've also played a little trumpet, althorn and flugelhorn. I've been playing for about 10 years now though, but I've always had problems getting better with high notes. Now I've found a great way to practice this though.

You should warm up well and play scales and low notes. Then you gradually move up withough pressing any valves, and repeat pressing down the middle one, then the first, then the first two valves, and so on. You can also go up the C-scale and other scales as far as you can. Play long high notes. Remember lots of air and stabilizing your back and stomach. If you feel your abs hurting after practice, you've done it right. DO not tighten your lips to much going higher, as the sound will only be out of tune and weak. For every long high note, play the same note two octaves down to loosen your lips.

Just a rabble of ideas, but it has helped me alot.
