Anybody know what the engines in these are like, I seem to be reading a bit about bad turbos, is this common. Is it best stay away from this model. It's 2005+ coupe i'm looking at.

My next door neighbour has one and loves it. 05 one. Afaik he hasn't had a single issue with it in a year. Rare enough car too.

    I have one, a 2006.
Bought it in 2007 and still driving it.

Turbo went in 2007, under warranty.

Have not had one problem with it since that, 130k km on the clock now.
Relatively efficient, and has a decent bit of poke for the engine it has.
Based on my own experience I would recommend it anyway.

It went in the first year:eek:. That's pretty bad. The one i'm looking at has 80k on it and nothing done to the turbo, should it be budgeted for in the price?

The problem regarding the turbo is usually down to the following not been done:
    • Turbo breather filter needs to be replaced every 2nd service. Not replacing it means it will get blocked and starve the turbo of oil. Bye bye turbo. Replace it with the newer vortex shape filter.
    • Forget about the long service intervals that the likes of BMW recommend. Stick to regular oil and filter changes say every 15k km.
    • Make sure the correct recommend grade of oil is used. Using the wrong grade can be harmful to the turbo and engine.

Anyway to check the turbo besides sound & smoke, no mention of breather pipes anywhere in the service history and it's not from a main dealer.
Mite be best to skip this one, I presume you wouldn't have much change out of €1500 for a new turbo fitted.
