    Hello,
Well I finally managed to buy a second hand car yesterday but the tax is up on it. Do i need to wait for the registration to change over to my name and get it in the post before I can do this.Or do I go into the motor tax office now?
Also if it is a case of waiting for the new form what should I have in the car to keep the Gardai happy if I am stopped?
    Thanks for your help,
    CF

I have always found the Gardai very reasonable in these circumstances once I explained that I recently bought the car and will tax it as soon as the VLC comes through, in fairness to each and every Garda I have had this chat with they always ask what's the story and are willing to listen :)

Might be helpful to keep the receipt in the car, and check here for the transaction to be registered. You can then print the page out while you're waiting for the VRC to be delivered.

Sorry to barge in on thread op but was wondering does anyone know how long does it take for the transaction to be registered online? Dealer told me that he registers it online but am wondering if it appears instantly then in that search engine. Bought car on Friday and still not registered. Dealer said would be done on Monday and need to tax it!
