    I'm looking for an idea to assign selections to people in an online sweepstake.

    for example:

    horse race with 20 horses.
    20 people each enter a pool to randomly be assigned a horse.

    as it will all be done online how can the draw be done fairly and beyond approach?

    there's a few apps on FB doing it for the Grand National. Boylesports had one there's one called the Grand National Sweepstakes app.

    You'd build logic into the app to randomly assign the horses to the people who have entered. Problem can be that you can end up with a complex logic to handle the two unknown variables - the number of players and the number of horses.

    Paper and pen can sometimes win here!

    Would have to be done online.

    maybe base it on the national lottery numbers in some way to do the draw? Any idea how to use that?
