I'm thinking about upgrading the shifters and brakes on my Felt F85 to Shimano 105.
Would anyone recommend this and could anyone comment on the approximate cost? Also should any other upgrades be considered?

Depends on your reason for upgrading to be honest.
Is there something wrong with the existing shifters and brakes ? (I don't know the spec of the F85)

Of course, upgrading is always good !:D

I presume it has the Microshift shifters? Both upgrades are probably worth doing, the new 5700 shifters are lovely, you should get them for around €150 or so. You'd probably get away with keeping the existing front mech. Also look out for good deals on SH Ultegra shift sets as people switch to DI2. Decent brakes will make a big difference. I think 105 are around €50 and there are even better deals on some of the better quality Tektro.

Other upgrade worth considering would be the wheels and tyres. Something like RS10's for €100+ but there are loads to choose from. Tyres: GP4000s can be got from €28 each or Grand Prix's for under €20.

Those are the Microshift shifters yes? If they are still working I wouldn't bother myself. It's €220 for a new set of the 5700 series 105 shifters.

If your gears are not shifting properly, change your gear cables (inners and outers).

I'm driving a 2011 Felt Z6 myself and am in the same boat as yourself. Microshift shifters and no name on the brakes. Was also thinking of upgrading the crankset.

I managed to get myself a brand new set of calipers for just €50 and am still on the lookout for a bargain set up shifters, but I have been thinking, what is the benefit really except the look and astethic finish of the bike, after all, my name is Stephen but I'm no Roche!

    What's the front mech?

    Front dérailleur/derailer.

There's no need to upgrade shifters unless they are faulty or you are moving from a 9 to 10 speed setup. The money would be better spent elsewhere.
