Heading to Vienna on 6 May until 9 May (3 nights) for my mother's 60th with mum, dad and OH. Have a lot organised except for the small matter of accomodation… Would anyone have any recommendations or somewhere nice and reasonable to stay that is in a good location for sightseeing, shopping etc on foot? Budget in and around €600 all in I reckon - the flights, concert tickets etc are all ramping up the cost pretty steadily.

Also if there is anything that one simply cannot miss while on a trip to Vienna, please share. I have never been but have heard wonderful things about the city.

All info/help etc is much appreciated. :)

    CL

Also just thinking that an apartment may be an option so if anyone could point me in the right direction in that regard, I'd be grateful.
    Thanks

Have stayed in a few hotels in Vienna...would recommend this one as being very central and nice. It is on the main shopping street so lots of shopping there and most of the sights are within easy walking distance.

Does come in over your price though at 675 euro which is not that bad for 2 rooms in Vienna.

Then again, anywhere in the city centre is fine as Vienna is a doddle to get around with the trams and underground lines.

I stayed at the Ring Hotel last time I was there, nice hotel and the location is fantastic. It might be over your budget, but Vienna is expensive for accommodation. I would not get the included breakfast and eat out though, breakfast is ok there but very over priced from what I remember.

We stayed at this hotel http://www.schubertring.at/ when we visited last year. Also needed 2 rooms and it worked out pretty reasonable (in a very good location) but as the OP stated accommodation in Vienna isn't cheap. It's a lovely city to walk around - have a great time!

Thanks for the pointers. NH Wien was recommended to me by a couple of different people but it brought the budget up just slightly into the next bracket. Based on those recommendations however, I went with NH Belvedere, which is beside the Palace and the Botanic Gardens and within walking distance of Mariahilferstrasse. I hope it was safe to assume that, as a chain, this one would be just as good…. 2 X Queen size double rooms (4 adults) for 3 nights worked out at €595 which I’m happy enough with.
We’re going to see Andre Rieu (whoever he is…) one of the nights. If anyone has any ‘must see/do’ recommendations, I’d love to hear them. Also would be grateful for any good breakfast and dinner spots! :)
    Thanks!
