Just been quoted €4,000 to replace the fuel injectors on an 01 transit does this sound anywhere near right ?

    €4000 for injectors?:D

Its 11 years old get ones from a scrap yard. Are you sure the pump is not knackered instead? I've seen 4 injectors gone on a newer one but never on the older van.

I'd be getting a second opinion as there are very few circumstanses where all 4 would need replacement at once.

well according to the mechanic yeah it's 4k for the injectors or failing that a new turbo.

i was think 4k was a bit nuts alright, what is the usual repair cost for something like this?

And can anyone recommend an honest mechanic in the Dublin 15 / Dublin 7 area

thanks for help so far lads

Or failing that a new turbo????

Does he do mechanics as a hobby or something?
You may need a second opinion. I think Blackchurch motors are Ford specialists but not sure where that is in Dublin.

Ken Fields in Clonee. He did work for us when we lived in maynooth. Good chap

I've never heard of a transit needing 4 injectors at once.

In other words he doesn't know what is wrong.

Take the van somewhere else and get it properly diagnosed.

    +1

Step one: remove the van from his garage!

Dublin 9 any use to you?

Dublin 9 or 11 would be fine too, basically ANY mechanic, who is good honest and cheap to keep the vehicle on the road as its an ambo so can't really just pick up a decent one on the fly these days.

    Holy moly :O

Anyway it seems doc went offline but I'm sure it was going in the direction of atlas drumcondra road lower

(across the road from Domineos :P )

Where's the face-slapping simile when you need it? :D

Either the OP has picked him up completely wrong, or this mechanic is a complete spoofer. Could be either.

In my opinion though, even if all four injectors were gone, €4000 is completely unrealistic a price. Almost sounds like a scare price, and the garage doesnt want the work.

There is an Atlas in Blanchardstown now, where Renault dealer used to be. It would try them for a proper diagnosis of the issue.

+ on Ken Fields too. Knows his stuff (especially Citroens)

If he's going to hand you back a 06-07 Transit with good injectors then sounds like a ok deal.

ha ha ha, 4k for an 01 transit engine, is this guy a comedian aswell as a mechanic? you can buy a whole bloody used engine for £1100 stg!

I agree the price is nuts, but there are an awful lot of 01-05 model transits getting scrapped because repairs to the fuel system are just non-economic - they make peanuts at the moment going good so repairs quickly get non-cost effective. The whole being an ambulance thing changes the scenario though, just not so simple to replace so repairs become more worthwhile. 4 injectors recon should cost 320 plus fitting though? 4k??:D

What would the likes of Atlas know about fuel systems?

I have used Ken Fields many times too but you will need a lift to/from his place as it's out the country roads.

ND is with Atlas, he knows his stuff. I can't vouch for all of them though, so I'm reserving my judgment on the other atlas branches.

Ken Fields is whom I'd go otherwise.

    Thats what im thinking now.

Firstly we never asked was it a 2 litre or a 2.4 litre. We should have since they are different. Also we don't know what the symptoms are. I know the injectors can give a bit of bother on the 2 litres just like the Mondeo. The 2.4 injectors never really give bother at all.
The high pressure pumps on these can fail. It could be that too. Four injectors can fail due to a dodgy pump.

Its pointless just doing diesel tests when a mechanic does not know what the specs are. We need a bit more info for the op.
Also I'm fairly sure I've never seen a turbo on a Transit fail.

again guys your help has been top notch.

Its the Ford Transit T350 model 2001 reg, pissing white smoke and loss of power with glow plugs light flashing

hi miju sounds like the lad is just trying to run you. 4k is mad money . if the van is still runnning you can rule out the pump, id get second opinion, even if you need a replacement engine it wouldnt cost you 1500 quid.

we done hundreds of those older transits and they rarely need injectors the tdci,s are animal on them alright but not the old 350,s .

if its belllowing out white smoke id say its a cracked head or cracked egr cooler , get a second opinion , 4k would get you a 07 van these days
ifu need injectors for it give me a shout weve boxes of them as the never give trouble .
