Canon Prima Mini

While tidying up I came across my old camera - a Canon Prima Mini. Should I just dump it or is there any demand for this type of second hand camera? I am a 'snapper of family photos' only - not a hobby photographer.

It's not worth a lot. You might get 10, 15 quid on adverts for it. I wouldn't dump it. Someone will take it off your hands or you could give it to a charity shop.

There are a bunch of compact cameras from around that era that have gained considerable popularity since. Sadly the prima mini isn't one of them :-) It's probably a decent enough performer though. I actually recently got a prima tele, has two selectable focal lengths and can do half frame as well as full frame. Since then I've also gotten a nikon af600 and a Konica Big Mini. I can stop though, any time I want. I don't HAVE to get that ricoh GR1, oh no. No sirree. <__< >__>

I find you can get compacts that are pretty good reasonably cheap. Certain cameras are trendy so it pushes the price up. I have a canon sureshot with a nice zoom lens that I paid €20 for. Came with original box and instructions.
I have a Yashica T4 super that I love but the price is high for one of those as it's a popular camera. I've mine taped up so it's all black. Don't want to get mistaken for a hipster.

Yeah It's a bit of a crapshoot. Some of them are expensive, like the T4, because of the quality of the lens, or like the various Ricohs, because they have a pretty exhaustive feature set (as well as being pretty upmarket in the quality stakes). Others I just don't know. The MJU II is a classic example. I've seen them go for more than €100 on ebay for some reason. They've just acquired a certain cachet that's far in excess of what they should have. Then there's one of the Big Mini models that goes for stratospheric prices, seemingly because Robert Frank used to favour it. People are weird that way :-)

I've been on a €25 compact camera buying spree for the last while, I have a pile of compacts on ebay watch lists and just bid on them all. Every now and again I win one :-) So I got the three above for about that price. The af600 is sweet. Really really tiny, 28mm lens, pretty good quality. The big mini is also pretty nice, with +/- exposure compensation along with a very nice 35mm lens. Most of the stuff on my flickr stream over the last few months has been taken on either of them.
