Car insurance at 25 year old mark

I hope this is in the right thread.

I'm currently 24 and will be 25 in september. I havnt owned a car before and hence havnt been insured before. So the quotes im getting are fairly rediculous! (was on parents insurance for 2 years, but that doesnt help my case :(.

Aaaanyway, if I get insured now, then in 6 months time I leave this high risk bracket of under 25s, will I still have to be paying the high rate for the following 6 months or is that accounted for automatically?

As far sa I know, its the age you are when you take out insurance, that is used to calculate your premium!! It wont matter that you change bracket midyear.

There are a couple of insurers that would target your profile so perhaps you should try shopping around some more. I know of a discount at QuoteMe (where i work) by one particular insurer that targets 18-24 year old males, and there is also the xsDirect option. They target drivers with no bonus/no experience. Give them a call or try their website. (they have an excess of 3k by default, though u can reduce this by increasing the premium)

Im not sure its correct to assume that your insurance premium will automatically drop when you hit 25; mine certainly didnt. If you are taking out your first policy then it probably wont make much difference whether you are 24 or 25; youre still a first time policy holder with no NCB.

I am in a similar boat to you. I am 24 years old (25 in November), only got my theory test there 3 weeks ago so I'm on a provisional licence with no prior driving experience, I bought a 1.3 litre Ford Fiesta Ghia X (2002) last week.... I am getting the insurance on my own under these circumstances and most offers I was getting were 1785-2100 euro for Third Party... Then I called Chill and they offered me 950.00 euro for Third Party and 1085.00 for Fully Comprehensive through Asgard (part of Lloyds)... By far the best quote I got. When I added my dad as a named driver then (with me still being the primary insurance holder), they dropped the price down to €900.00 for me... Give them a call and see how you get on

I think the "age" that your insurance drops a bit is 28, not 25.

Very minimal change in mine when I hit 25. Since your new to the road it would make any difference anyway OP.

Im pretty sure its 25. Know some people who are 25, just started driving on their full license and got quotes that are lower than mine(im 23 with 3 years ncb)

It's been changed with most to 28/29 about 2 or 3 years. Regardless, you'll still be classed as a first time driver. Expect to pay a lot, at least for the first year

Lads, my 19 YO brother got a 07 micra during the week, I got him a quote of 1301 TPFT. That's his own policy in his name, with 0 experience and on a learner permit. Got that quote through Britton. It was unreal, had to get them to call out all the details again just in case there had been a mistake!

Also, that quote above was with my mother as a named driver, this brought the cost down by over 200. And I was added as a named driver for free too. Cracking deal.

My first quote when I was 23 and started driving (on a provisional) was for €1860 (€300 excess), Fully Comp with Hibernian in a 1.4 Golf.

Passed my test about 3 months later and I got a rebate of €300 or so off them. The next year my renewal quote from them came in at €1300ish. I left them and went with Britton who offered me the same policy (breakdown, windscreen etc...) for €760 (€250 excess).

    €190!

I've never seen such a small excess. The norm these days is 250-350 or 500+ with No Nonsense. who's the insurer?

try nononsense.ie... they were way cheaper than the rest when i was your age!
