Hi dont know if this is the right page to be posting but i am looking for advice, before kids drive me mad

Have a Sky box and its been working perfectly its all free view channels and its the sky box you can record on but not HD.

It was ok yesterday morning and all of a sudden a error message came up saying NO SATTELITE SIGNAL BEING RECEIVED PLEASE UNPLUG YOUR BOX FROM THE MAINS AND THEN TRY AGAIN IF PROBLEM PERSITS PLEASE CALL CUSTOMER SERVICES.
I did all the above a few times and still nothing i am getting the same error message i have undone all the cables at the back and reinserted and again nothing i dont know what else to do, i cannot ring sky as i am not a customer of sky i would appreciate if anyone has advice as the kids are going mad to watch there daily television so am i infact.

I have looked across some of this section for resolutions but i cannot seem to find anything and the ones i can find seem to be for the HD boxes .

    Thanks Guys Damsel in distress

I know its annoying i just do not have the money to call someone out for at least a week.Seems to be a lot of posters on here that maybe know what they are talking about before paying the engineer 90.00.

could be a few things, Can you borrow a box from a neighbour and set it up? or bring your box to their house.

this will determine if the problem lies with your sky box or or the dish(lnb) ,

I have an old thompson box the first ones that were out and that is doing the same so i am guessing its something to do with either the dish or the cable coming into the house.Hubby was up there though and everything looks fine so he said then again he is a digger driver not a sat engineer lol,

Think i may just have to get someone out

thats very nice of you, i have normal sky. I take it i could not change it with a sky+ box with only one cable for start, or is it east? thanks

A sky+ box will work fine for FTA with only one cable, just set the box to single feed mode.

Just to let you know i got my sky sorted yipeeee it was the black cable coming in from the dish to the back of the box i had to wiggle it around a little and then it came back on, maybe check your own cable and see if its ok and the connection at the back of the box.:D:D:D:D:D:D

Oh now you're asking the right one technical questions!! NOT!
All I know is that I've cancelled my sky and dont intend getting it in my new place and it seems a shame to be letting the box go to waste. Has hardly ever been used as I didnt have some sort of 2nd connection for it to be used to record while watching something else. I have never in fact used it to record anything etc. That gives you some indication of my technical prowess!!
Anyway...PM if you'd like to discuss further.
I'd be delighted to find it a good home!
    Aine
