I'm looking to replace my old HP, and I've seen a new HP pavilion g6 on sale for 600, the Tech specs are as follows
    CPU and Memory:

Intel Core i5 dual core 2450M.
    2.5GHz processor speed.
    6GB DDR3 RAM memory.
    750GB SATA hard drive.

    Display features:

    15.6 inch display.
    High definition display.
    Resolution 1366 x 768 pixels.

    DVD optical drives:

    DVD+RW/DVD-RW(read/write).
    Dual layer.

    Graphics:

    Interfaces and connectivity:

    3 USB ports.
    1 Ethernet port.
    1 HDMI port.
    Wi-Fi enabled.

    Multi-media features:

    0.3MP built-in webcam.
    Built-in mic.

    Operating system and software:

    Microsoft Windows 7 Premium.

    Software included:

Preloaded manufacturers suite of applications include:

    General features:

Up to 4.5 hours battery life.
    Size H3.63, W37.4, D24.5cm.

it seems like a very reasonable deal to me, can anyone advise me if this is a good price?

I want i5 that's my only real must have!

    thanks xxx

Yep thats a fair enough price. Not a bargain but not a rip off either.

I would look at other laptops with a similar for a better price, but I haven't been able to find one that's more than 10 quid cheaper!

I'm assuming you've seen this laptop in a shop. There are better deals if your willing to buy online. Such as this toshiba with an i5 too, smaller hardrive but more ram all for about 460 euro.

The price is acceptable indeed, I suppose it's using only the Intel HD 3000 graphics. At komplett there's a similar Tosh with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M for €619 incl VAT and delivery.

That seems like a reasonable price.
Before you buy a new Laptop .
Buy an ssd For your old one .
It will Give you the same Proformance as new I5 laptop .
I have an ssd . My laptop loads in 30 sec . It had 64 gig . But I would recomend the 124 gig . As window takes about 30 Gig office about 10 .
other programmes 10 . With 10 left over . Its ok for me as I have to hard drives slots in my laptop .
But I would Get an Ssd before Buying a new Laptop .
The hard drive is biggest contraint on any pc built in the last 4 years .

I'm no good with computers so this might not make sense, my current laptop is over 4 years old and was a self build it has great CPU but the RAM is too low so it regularly over heats and shuts down, the DVD drive no longer works, and the battery no longer works, its really on its last legs!

I'd imagine it would cost a fortune to fix all this

You're no good with computers but you build your last laptop??? Something doesn't compute here. ;)

Ken actually has a good point. Upgrade your new laptop with a solid state disk and use the original plattter hard disk with a nice enclosure. You'll get great speed and robustness as SSDs don't have any mechanical parts that can break.

Now that you have given away your age, go along with the laptop you have picked there, the price is right. ;)

I'm not familiar at all with sites like this can I trust them? is there any after sales support? and the price is based on a cash back offer, I'm a bit apprehensive :(

Yes very trustworthy many on this site have bought from them before. I don't know about their after sales support, maybe someone else can tell you about that. The cash back also shouldn't be a problem, again I have seen many here avail of cashback deals from the site before. Only thing is you'll have to wait 30 days before you can claim it.

    Just kidding. ;)

Whether you buy a HP direct or a Tosh from a UK online retailer, there wouldn't be much difference in the "after sales support". Something goes wrong with your HP, it will be shipped to the UK for repair.

thanks, I'll look into it, really is a great suggestion but I'm still a bit worried about it, I guess I like a face to face relationship when making such a big purchase,
