cassette not attached to back wheel

Hoping someone can put me right on this.

I have a set of Hed Ardennes wheels and after travelling recently I took my rear wheel out of the bag and the cassette just slipped off.

Should there be a lock ring on here to hold it in place? Or do some wheels not require one?

Or could this be something to do with the cassette?

Its not completely loose, it seems to sorta click into place and it rides ok but I just feel like there should be something there holding it on?

    Am I worrying about nothing?

No. There should be a lockring. The cassette should be very secure.

    Definitely should be a lockring.
The cassette should not come off easily, designed only to be taken off with special tools.

Would it be a bit cheeky to assume you're a triathlete ;)

Sorry just around to tinkering with the bike. Yes the freehub body is coming off too. I'm trying to change the cassette now and have removed the lock ring but the cassette won't come off the freehub.

Any advice people? Should a hammer be employed at this point?!?

Actually no I'm not! Just a lazy cyclist who used to let his LBS do all the work.and didn't/ doesn't understand the dark art that is disassembling a bike....
