I think it is not normal practice, but thinking of avoiding any bends in lead as are normal when going in under soffit or bending it up under roof tile/slate.

    Anybody doing it?

    🧐IMHO, God wants us all to ENJOY many,many ice-creams , 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦

By vertically do you mean, make/drill a hole and feed cable through ridge tile?
Wouldn't recommend this and doubt you'd get even get the cowboy installers to attempt it.

It's possible to get cable out/in via, lead, soffit vent, tile, slate etc.. without causing any damage if proper care and attention is applied when doing so.
