MySql 5.5 command line client won't work

    I've never had so much hassle trying to install and use a piece of software as I've has with this.
    I've been completely unable to change the password when installing it.
    Now that I've finally installed it with no password for root it won't allow me to use the Mysql 5.5 command line client.
    It asks me for a password and I just press enter as there is no password and it closes so fast I can't read the damn error.
    I think it says "Access denied for user" or something.
    I'm damn frustrated with this can someone please help?
