Left my laptop idle and on for a few hours while dong bits and pieces, returned to see a yelllow triangle with an exclaimation mark beside my internet connection icon...
Could some one tell me what this means and is it safe to shut down my computer ..
My internet seems to be working okay...

It normally means it connected to your router / modem but doesnt have an outbound connection. But as you can browse the web fine it must be something else.

it could also be that someone else has the same ip address on the network as you and its warning you about the conflict. Does someone in the house have a static ip set?

Fionny Thank you for your reply...after 30 mins fooling around on the net it seems to have righted itself...triangle gone..no one else in house...just can't explain it....maybe i should switch off computer from now on instead of leaving it idle...

Nah dont worry about it, the connection could have gone funny for a second or anything it can take a while to go away. If its not causing you an issue then dont worry about it, its certainly nothing critical.

Sounds like an IP conflict on the network.

Basically 2 devices have the same IP address.

How many devices do you have connected to your router.

Turn off all devices on the network, then reboot the router.

    Turn the devices back on.

If you only have one device make sure that the network is secure, maybe change the password, if its WEP try changing to WPA.
