Very slow WiMAX in Forest Hill, Carrigaline

We're using the Internet over Imagine WiMAX here in the Forest Hill area of Carrigaline. Right now, the speed is almost unusable and the connection sometimes drops at peak times (9-11pm). I also see lots of resent packets needing to be sent, so there must be something wrong.
    • Download 148 kbit/s (19 kByte/s)
    • Upload 499 kbit/s (62 kByte/s)
    • ping to 8.8.8.8 is 70ms which is actually quite okay

Does anyone have the same problem in this area, or around Cork/Carrigaline? I'm also wondering if there are any cable-bound broadband options available in Forest Hill.

By the nature of the service, Imagine Wimax speeds can vary greatly, and can in no way be guaranteed by the provider. Whatever you get is all you're going to get, and there's pretty much nothing you can do to improve it.

Best bet is to seek an alternate service, and switch to it. Cable, DSL or fixed wireless are the only one's to look into.

I am new to Ireland and have just moved into the same Forest Hill estate in Carrigaline. I will need a robust internet provider as i will be working from home and will be downloading and more importnatly uploading microsft office files (excel, word, powerpoint, pdf) of signicant size (up to 20MG). I was wondering what the best option is. i have scared away from satellite options by others and think I will be stuck with eircom or vodaphone ADSL. Happy with any suggestions. Cheers

We work from home around the corner in Kilnagleary and use Nova networks. Very happy with them. My wife is a wb designer and needs good speeds.

Unluckily Nova were my first choice but unfortunately Forest Hill falls just outside their range. Thanks for quick reply. Any other suggestions of isp's you looked at before deciding on Nova? Price isnt the issue just reliability and oupload speed.

We were with Amocom but found that when Ripplecom bought them out they deteriorated badly. I've no other suggestions unfortunately.

Actually I had my Imagine connection fixed by letting the support people check and reset my connection. Happens from time to time, but after a reset speed is great and unproblematic.
