Is there a breakdown of what kind of ppl are unemployed in Ireland

No, there is no routine measurement of skills and qualifications among the unemployed. There may be some surveys commissioned in this area, but I am not aware of any.

The QNHS, which measures labour force participation and unemployment, provides a break down of participants and the unemployed by sex, age, geographical are and some other attributes.

On the other hand, the live register does not measure unemployment, but it does classify welfare claimants on the basis of last held employment sector. It also provides a breakdown of those on labour activation measures, including re-training. But there is no skills based classification.

An ERSI research assistant and PhD student called Thomas Conefrey has analysed returns to education by those who have left the labour market in a very interesting study that he undertook last year. It is available here, and I have inserted a graphic outlining some of the findings below.

Again, this is not specifically what you have asked for, I'm afraid. But with all of the above information, you might be able to do some detective work and piece together a casual analysis of where you think skills shortages may be apparent, specifically by looking at previous trends in labour force participation.

Also,someone else here might be more familiar with up-to-date surveys which have been commissioned to identify the skills and qualifications which can be attributed to the unemployed.
