Probably stupid question in many ways. But do people have much of an opinion as when is the best time to start building a house in Ireland. We're looking at maybe Sept/Oct start and wondering if maybe better to leave off till January?
    Any opinions?

With the weather being so unpredictable in this country asap is the best time to start.

Given how mild and dry a winter we just had compared with the Great Freeze of 2010/11 the previous winter there's simply no proper answer.

4 of our last 5 'summers' have been wash-outs too.

What I would say is that it would probably be more ideal to move into a new house in the spring as the evenings get longer and heating/lighting bills get lower to give you a better headstart when all the money hits you at once.

In general, starting in a Feb\March time frame with the aim to be finished externally for winter at the latest is a safe bet.

Trying to dry a house out during the winter (which I've just had to) is a pain of the highest order.

Don't also forget the advantage of the longer days over the time period too.
