Anyone recommend a cheap enough garage in North Dublin for a pre NCT car service. I've a feeling it might need a bit of work done before I put it through the NCT, def needs new tyres anyway.

    Appreciate all help.

    Thanks

Do you need a service or an NCT check?

NCT check but may require some service work also.

Put some new tyres on it, get it serviced as normal and put it thru the test. It might pass just as well then.

I always have the same answer for these threads.
Put it through NCT first, then get everything that it failed on fixed after (mind, replace anything broken before the test, bulbs etc)

Urm, a service is something that is due every year anyway, regardless of when the NCT is due.

For having a check of NCT fail points before the test then most garages will do this.

If Drumcondra is anywhere near you I can check it FOC for you.

But then I'm paying €28 to put it through the NCT again on top of the money I'll be paying to have the required fixed ?

Would it not make more sense for me to get what ever works done then put it through ? So I'm not wasting time and money going back and forward to the test centre

The reason people recommend this is because many fail items are the opinion of the tester, and opinions between tester and mechanics can differ.

Having said that, the NCT tends to make people check things that should be checked regularly anyway, so if you know that you have bald tyres and other issues then you should be having them rectified anyway.

If you think it'll pass after a service then go ahead.

However it might not, and then you spent service money, test money, fixing money and retest money. 4 x money.
If you put it through "as is" you'll spend test money, fixing money and retest money. 3 x money.
    Of course amounts may vary.
