injured with 12 days to half marathon

    I will be taking part in Wexford half marathon on the 22nd April( My first half marathon)
    age 43; height 6 feet ; weight 15 stone

    I want to run under 2 hours;
    I did 13.1miles in 2.04 in training 2 weeks ago and was on track to get to 2 hours by race day

    I have had calf injury (at some point in run i have to stop due to jabbing pain in right calf) for last 10 days which is interrupting my program; my last run was on 5th April when I had to stop after 9 miles;

    I checked it out again this evening and stopped after half mile. very frustrating.

    any advice for the next 12 days based on past experiences?

    Have a professional look at it. Physio or physical therapist and heed their advice.

    Make an appointment to see a physio.

    In the meantime look for another race to target and google 'half marathon training plan'.

    +1 for the physio, and go ASAP. Also, whatever exercises the physio gives you, do them obsessively. A lot of people do them until the pain goes away and then stop - do them for the prescribed time.

    Last bit of advice is to be realistic in your target time for the half. You may be fine on the day, but if you have done some damage to your calf then be realistic with your expectations. Worst thing you can do is go over the top on an injured leg and make the situation worse. There are a lot of other races out there!
