I've been on Optimum Nutrition Why Protein for about 8 months now and have really felt the benefit of it in the gym. Recently though in the past 2 weeks i've been getting bad stomach cramps after i take the protein. At 1st i though i just picked up a bug but i feel fine when i haven't taken it and then about 20 minutes after i take it, the cramps kick in. I thought maybe i just got a bad batch maybe but i borrowed some off a friend and i still got the same reactions. I find it a bit strange that i was fine with the protein for 8 months and now suddenly my body is having some sort of reaction to it. Has this happened to anybody else?

Yup, I've had that exact problem with a variety of different whey products. I'd be doubled over in pain sometimes. In my experience it made no difference which brand I tried, the problem seemed to be with me.
The only thing that works is to reduce the serving size so, for example, instead of having a table spoon of whey mixed with milk/water I'd break that down into 2 half tablespoons taken an hour or so apart. Inconvenient but nothing else worked.

Are you mixing it the same as always or have you changed from water to milk??

Do you get the same issues when you drink milk?

No, haven't changed anything with how i mix the shake. I use water and about 1 1/2 scoops of whey. Only thing that was different was i had taken about 4 weeks off weights to focus on cardio.

That shouldn't make a difference! Also if I remember correctly ON whey is mixed with lactase enzymes so it should be ok on the lactose front!
    You've a few options,
    • Drink a glass of whole milk & see if you get the same problem
    • Drink a glass of skimmed milk & see if you get the same problem (sometimes it can be fat in milk that people cant process & not lactose....but this isn't the problem here)
    • Mix your shake with lactose free milk you can get in any supermarket, the enzyme in it should do the trick! (works for me anyway)
    • Make your own lactose free milk with colief drops, it works & is alot cheaper then buying lactose free milk all the time (You can use whole milk :D)
    • or Try taking lactase enzymes before your shake, you can get them in Holland & Barrett cheap enough
    • Try Whey Isolate as it's more refined & the lactose is less in it compared to concentrate

These could possibly give you an idea of what your problem is/be an fix to your problem! :)
