I believe T8 is the only mod which adds the least amount to your over all length of your rifle. 2inches max which is very good but they will rust if you dont clean it but will last for years if you mind it and their performance is really good too

I went for A-Tec Maxim reacently. It's half the weight of the T8, alluminium, so don't rust, strippable for cleaning, thinner and shorter than T8 and it is over barrel. Very close to noise reduction aswell. Price 300-330 depending on RFD. Great mod in my opinion.

All suppressors/moderators are a compromise in my book.

Some, due to weight, affect the handling of a firearm in a very significant way. T8 is an example of this. Great at reducing sound (one of the best I've heard) but on the end of a long barrel with the lever effect going on they can ruin a gun's balance.

There are lighter options like A-tec cmm4 which are great from a handling point of view but in terms of longevity and sound reduction they lag behind. They are comparatively cheap. On a hunting rifle not firing tons of rounds at once they would last a reasonable amount of time I'd guess.

So I think you need to find the balance between, noise reduction, weight and length of service.

My cz barrel is not that long and with the T8 on it i find it grand. Would not like to have it hangin off the end of a long barrel tho!

Its impossible to get a moderator that adds as little to your overall rifle length as the T8 does. Nothing is as bad as too long of a rifle IMO. My last rifle had a 22inch barrel with a T8 and it was so awkward to get out of a vehicle quickly and quietly when out lamping and if it was any longer it would be worse for that matter. My friends rifle has a 20 inch barrel with a T8 and the difference in mobility was huge. That's why i personally would never buy any mod only T8 as it makes the rifle more compact but I will say the A-tex Maxium that zlezlius mentioned in post above does look to be a very good mod. Hope Reflex make a T8 out of stainless or aluminium some day

Heres a good comparison of mods

For me i want to change my mod to a atec cmm4 as my rifle is only used for hunting, if i was doing target work then i'd use a jet z sl5

    I own a T8 myself but isn't the T4 even shorter no?

Couldn't tell you as i'm not sure. I believe the T8 has 8 baffles and the T4 has 4 and i think the T4 is bigger as its the older version. I was told this ages back about the T4 but it could be hear a lie tell a lie. I'm unsure on that

T4 is about half the size of t8, a mate of mine had one on his 223 last year

When my new rifle comes in i'm thinking of taking out the original bushing out of the T8 and i'm going to machine a replica bushing out of nylon or maybe brass so i be sure it wont scratch the barrel. I did notice some of their bushings sometimes don't be perfectly smooth and have slight burrs resulting in barrel scratches. The worst part about machining nylon is i'd have to sample what speed to cut/thread the piece so it doesn't leave a bad finish. I honed my last one and it didn't scrape but metal against metal will mark eventually

Is there any difference between a T8 and a T8AR?
And would these mods work all the same if you removed the bushing completely?

They should as its the baffels that does all the work in taking the crack/bang out of the round. The bushing is to keep the mod secure to prevent movement and to keep moderator exit perfectly in line with barrel exit. It keeps it square so the round doesn't touch it when it leaves the barrel. Without it you could blow the mod or take a yomp out of it i'd say

Its just that I know a fella with a T8 that chucked away the bushing as he had different weight barrels and what was right for one wasn't for the next. And one of the heavier barrels had a ring worn on it where the bushing sat. Don't think he ever had a problem without it

I looked up the manual online last night and according to that the T8 adds 98mm to the length of the rifle and the T4 adds 68mm.

Thats an unreal reduction in lenght... I wonder does it perform as good as the T8?

Just an addition to the above comment, the maxim is aluminium but it's baffles are stainless steel which eliminates the erosion aluminium moderators are prone to.

I have this mod on my 25-06 and while it has pretty good noise and recoil reduction it is no where near as effective as the northstar I had on my .270

But then that was alot heavier, the maxim is perfect for me as the noise doesn't damage my ears now and that's all I want from a mod,

Plus got mine from Stakelums for €285 so ring around! :D
