Jury Duty

So I today received a letter summoning me for jury duty on 16th may. Unfortunately, my step daughter is getting married on saturday 19th may - the wedding is in the north where me and hubbie are originally from.

we were supposed to be heading up north on thursday the 17th to help with final arrangements etc and generally just be around for her. We're not due to come back down until the tues (22nd) afterwards.

is this any sort of grounds to get out of it?

It's probably not on the official list of valid excuses but when I was on a panel, the registrar told us the excuses that the judge would probably accept if we were called to serve and of the ones that I remember, they included a family wedding or a medical appointment.

Write to the court registrar, include a photocopy of the wedding invitation and ask to be excused, that's all you can do.

thanks for that - i have written to the registrar - unfortunately I have no invitation - my step daughter was saving a bit of money on the invites - 'sure you and dad will be there anyway, you dont need an invite!!'

fingers crossed i get out of it - this wedding has cost me and hubbie a fortune and i really dont want to miss it!
