Hello ,I got a call from AIB yesterday about a transaction I made on strava for membership payment.
Has anyone heard of any issues giving strava credit card details ?

Were they simply calling you to ask if the transaction was genuine, or did they say there was a particular issue?

If the former, that is simply standard Credit Card company practice, particularly if they see something out of the ordinary in the way the payment request was presented to them. If the latter, did they say what the issue was?

Not quite sure ,they mentioned that it was an american transaction and they (AIB) stopped my card.
I'm not an experienced online shopper ,so I never get calls like this. I thought maybe strava had a bad name or something:(

The fact you're not an experienced online shopper is the clue here. AIB saw a payment to an American website from someone who does not normally make online payments, so they decided to check it out. They presumably did not suggest anything fraudulent had taken place.

It's standard pracrtice, and nothing to worry about, unless they tell you something otherwise

They'll typically do this if it's a small or odd amount originating from somewhere where security checks are lax. This is because scammers will often try to charge a small amount onto a card (paying for food or something) to check that it works before going for big purchases.

In this case if you're trying to do a monthly sub, it's probably something small like €4.56 with an address somewhere in the U.S. So AIB's system automatically flags this as possibly fraudulent, hence you get the call.

BOI have caught such transactions twice for me.

I don't usually subscribe to stuff ,but I think strava is a great idea and thats why.

Plus ,I really wanted to get my ranking based on weight because I'm a large cyclist:)

What the guys are getting at is that strava seem to give away codes to give you six months free every month or two, check out the bargain alerts thread.

Kinda OT...... but if I ever receive a call from my credit card company or bank I always tell them to log the call and I will ring them back straight away to discuss the problem etc. I do this just due to the tiny chance that the person ringing me might not be who they say they are :)

Likewise. I never ever ever will deal with a cold caller, no matter who they say they are.
I think it's crazy that financial institutions will give advice about phishing on the one hand, and on the other call you up out of the blue and ask for personal information so they know they're talking to the right person.
