    Hi all,

I am hoping that you can help me out, I am catholic and will be having a catholic wedding but to be honest i have only been to one church wedding ever!

I am living in Australia and will not be back in Ireland to meet with my priest until 2 weeks before the wedding so i am hoping ye can help me out with who does what during the ceremony.

How many people do you ask to do readings at the wedding? Am i right that there is two readings and prayers of the faithful?

Offetry procession - Who usually does this? Can you ask Nieces and Nephews?

Do you usually need an usher and what are they responsible for?

    Am I forgetting anything else??!!

Thanks all, any help would be great, i know my priest will be able to answer these questions but unfortunately i dont want to leave it until its that close to the wedding to ask people!!

Check out this website http://gettingmarried.ie/pages/index.php It's the churches website for getting married. Should answer everything you need to know for your ceremony.

It's usually 2 readings, 1 old 1 new testament, and 6 prayers of the faithful.
the 8 readers are picked, 4 from each side but this is not a rule and depending on the make up of your guests can be divided up anyway, you could even have only 1 reader for both testaments and 1 for the prayers of the faithful.
Usually the mothers bring up the gifts fot the offetory, but again completely up to you as to who you want.
Ushers direct the guests to the bride and grooms respective sides (bride on lft as you look at the altar) and hand out the mass booklet. I've been at weddings where there were no ushers.
I've been asked twice to do readings/prayers when I've got to the church the day of the wedding, so as long as you have them printed out you can sort it out when you get to Ireland.

I'd be more worried about getting all the paperwork for the church ceremony and the civil side as this can take a long time, particurally seeing you are abroad. The previous posters link has all the info for that.
