Kia Cee'd 2007 what should I get done?

    I bought a Kia Cee'd 2007 a few weeks ago.
The service book is not complete and I was wondering what I should get looked at assuming timing belt and the like was not changed. Its petrol with 100000 km on the clock.
I know zippo about cars but I am afraid it may have been sold now because it needs some engine parts replaced and I don't know what to look for or to change or if they where done with the previous owner.

Kia Cee'ds need a major service every 50,000km according to the interwebs

Am I reading this correctly. You bought a car with no service history, likely no mechanic checked it as you say it needs engine parts and you are looking for advise on what to do next ?

Full service, brake fluid and coolant change, pollen filter, auxilary belt and if needed timing belt and water pump wouldn't be the end of the World anyway. What you need is a decent mechanic or garage who will sort you out :)

I imagine the OP is only guessing/fretting about it needing engine parts.

No I don't think you're reading it right.

It was bought from a garage with 6 months warranty. It has a service record but its patchy. I am just asking what parts go in a ceed or any car for that matter and what should i look for. Sorry if thats clueless but I am not well up on cars. I don't want something to go and then be told you have changed that at xxx kilometers.

First thing to ask is has it had it's 1st major service which would include alot of the things RoverJames mentioned above and ask the dealer why there are gaps (even in the oil services) as this can put the engine under stress.

You came here a month too late we could have made you into a right consumer ninja :)

    All Cee'ds have 7 Year warranty , or 150,000 km's whichever comes first. :D

    Did they in 2007?
Also, to maintain the warranty the car must be serviced to schedule.

    Ceed had it from launch.

Unlikely this one qualifies for it if the servicing isn't to schedule and inspections not carried out.

The 7 year warranty didn't arrive until 2009 AFAIK. The 2007 and 2008 Cee'ds definitely only had a 5 year warranty. I know this because I booked a customer's Cee'd into a Kia dealer for warranty work recently.

I was pretty sure it was 7 years from launch, certainly in the uk they were anyway.

It was actually 1 January 2010 when it came in, see the link below:

Going on a few ads. 07 ceed ( import maybe?)
    http://www.carzone.ie/search/KIA/Ceed/1.4-EX-5/201212207404228/advert?channel=CARS
    Says 2 years warranty remaining

I think I would rather take Kia's word for it than some private seller in fairness.

The car I got sorted under warranty was 2008. I serviced it and noticed the front anti roll bar links were worn. I wasn't sure what kind of warranty was on it so I rang Portlaoise Kia who told me it was 5 years. I have no reason to doubt them. As the car was still under warranty either way it was sorted by them anyway.

I don't doubt you at all George, it's just I remember the hoo-haa that was made of the ceed at the time cos of the warranty.

I know Hyundai only offered the 5 year warranty around 08 too when they had it on the uk for years.

Well I was only going off what the dealer told me and it wouldn't be the first time a dealer was wrong but the Kia website seems pretty definite that the 7 year warranty only applies after 2009:
Kia Motors Ireland Terms & Conditions:

The Kia 7 year/ 150,000km warranty is effective on all vehicles registered from 1st January 2010.

The 7 year warranty is a full manufacturer’s warranty. The exact terms and conditions vary slightly between models* and some items have a natural limited lifetime/ durability and are therefore covered for less than 7 years, but as a minimum:

Paintwork is covered for 5 years.
Audio is covered for 3 years.
Batteries are covered for 2 years.
Normal ‘wear and tear’ on items such as brake linings and clutch linings, etc. are excluded from cover.
The warranty is transferable to subsequent owners and is valid across Europe

I bought a Cee'd brand new in 2007 and there was a Sticker on it with 7 Year Warranty, and I had work done on it under warranty a few times and it was a 7 Year Warranty from Launch.

Other cars that were moved to being Manufactured in their new Plant in Slovakia then got the 7 Year Warranty from 08 onwards.

They initially only offered it on the ceed, then the sportage, then made it standard across the range,

Is it possible there was changes to the warranty ? possibly to do with the mileage part and it applied from Jan 2010 and thats why it has that on the website?

What items, if any, are listed in what service history it has?

@90k it should have had oil and filter, air filter, spark plugs and full inspection and diagnostics.

@105k its due and oil and filter change and inspection.

The above is assuming its been serviced correctly up until now.

The coolant should changed first at 90k.

Brake fluid should be changed every 2 years.

Your car doesn't have a timing belt, it has a chain so has no replacement interval.

If you have no record of what items have been done in previous services then obviously the best idea is to have everything that is/should be due done and then keep the service record correct while you own it.

As for the warranty, I think the 1st of jan 2010 was when the 7 year warranty became standard across the whole range. The Cee'd had it from launch I'm almost certain.
