Anyone know if the bike racks at the Point Village are in the underground car park or are they out in the open?

Basically want to know if my bike will still be there after I go to the cinema :)

I cycled down last night to check it out. No bike racks. Went to the under ground car park, they said there was none but I could lock it to a fence down there.

I then went back up and asked security people outside the Point. "I wouldn't lock that bike around here", was the response

    Pity.

Dang, I was planning to bike down to the cinema tonight.

Pretty big oversight for somewhere that's quite a bit out from the city centre.

Yeh, I wrote a letter saying they should do what Drury St. CP did.

Bicycle racks should have been part of the planning permission???

But with the Docklands authorty, who knows...

The DDDA wouldn't exactly have an unblemished reputation where the planning system is concerned..

I did find this info- it's taken from Appendix 3 of the Docklands - North Lotts: Area Planning Scheme (2002, amended 2006) which, I think, is the relevant masterplan (though its content may have been superseded subsequently- y'know, like the way they changed their minds about building heights on a whim to satisfy U2 for sound civic reasons ):
Churches, theatres, cinemas: 5 spaces/100 seats.

    and
Public car park: at least 15% of the number of car parking spaces provided.

    http://www.ddda.ie/files/business/docs/nlottsapp.pdf

Without over-complicating the issue, it's possible that the developer applied to DCC rather than the DDDA for permission (though I don't think this was the case); if so, then DCC development plan standards for cycle parking would have applied rather than DDDA planning scheme standards for cycle parking.

Slightly off topic, but I used Drury St. for the first time on Saturday and it really is great. I'm living relatively close to town now and was able to go and get all my errands and shopping done with a pannier on the bike.

Back on topic: where did you leave the bike in the end?

I mailed the Point Village management address and the Carpark address to see if there is anywhere officially allocated for bikes.

    They got back to me.

    "Many thanks for your email.

We are due to begin surfacing works of the Point Village Square shortly which will take a number of months to complete.
We have planned for bike racks to be installed on the square as part of these works.
    "

Hopefully they will install cctv ;)

I didnt park it last night. More of a recon mission and to get my legs working after the Gravity Enduro race in Djouce at the weekend.
