'05 Avensis, centre console cubby hole

There's a small cubby hole (in the centre console, right beside the handbrake lever) with a little flap that opens and closes, but a lot of them seem to f*ck up and the little flap is stuck in the open position! I pulled it out today and it seems the mechanism is at fault, there's a part no. on it - 55630-05010

Does anyone know if these can be gotten from a main dealer? An online search showed up absolutely nothing of relevance.

Did you ask a main dealer?

Did you ever find a solution to this, the cubby cover/flap on mine stays up as well.

You have to buy a centre console from the main dealer, costs well over €100 (can't remember now) for it.

I just removed the mechanism from the cubby hole so it lies down now rather than sticks up.

this is quite a common thing to happen, best thing is to get one from a scrapyard.

Had the very same problem with my 05 Avensis. Tried to pick up a replacement from every scrap yard in the south of Ireland for a year with no joy, so came up with my own remedy. I fitted one of these http://www.southco.com/class/e4-touch-latches-7400.html. Once the spring to open the lid is still working this is perfect. Can post photos of how to fix if anyone needs them. Rgds.

That's a pretty good idea, can you stick up some photo's of the end result - how you have it fitted?

Some pics with brief description of how to fit Latch.

Start by removing the Cubby by popping plastic cap (pic1).
    1.jpg
Use a screw driver to lever up chubby(pic2).
    2.jpg
When this is done lift up chubby which will cause moulding around gear stick to lift, lift this moulding (pic3)3.GIF which will reveal two screws to be removed which hold down the chubby(pic4,5).4.jpg5.GIF

When chubby is out separate it from moulding by undoing four screws in (pic6).

Cut slot for latch in position shown in (pic7). Remove adhesive strip from latch and close lid firmly on latch, this is to stick the second part of latch to lid (pic8). All done just put it back in the reverse order above. Rest of pics below.

    http://radionics.rs-online.com/web/p/pressure-catches/2455531/ is what i used
very simple job. I cut a hole in the plastic of the car with a knife and stuck the big bit in put the other piece on with superglue - have it in the car for over 6 months and no bother so far.

pm me your email and i can send photos
