Golf 2001 GT 1.9 TDI Tailgate Lock

    Can someone please help I have recently had a new manual tailgate lock fitted to a 2001 Golf GT TDI, but when I open the tailgate using the key the alarm goes off. Previously this never happend but the garage says this normal for this model. Is this correct or is it something that I can repair.

    PS. When the garage started to take the lock out I noticed a fine spring flip out and I do not know if it was refitted with the new lock and am not sure if this may have something to do with the problem.

    Some advice would be appreciated.
