    Hi all,

I have woodworm again . In my sitting room suspended floor and small bedroom wooden floor. I had rentokil out and he didn't really do a survey as such just said yes you have woodworm when I showed him a dead bettle I killed just outside of a vent for the suspended floor. He also pointed out old woodworm tracks which I already knew were there.

Im not denying I have it as I found another bettle crushed under the mat at the fireplace :(. He told me its 250 plus vat but told me the vat is 23%? According to revenue its 13.5 on woodworm services so why is he chargine me 23%? Should I tell him the rate is reduced and thats what im paying them whether they like it or not?

The query is in relation to a taxation issue so I'll move it to the relevant forum.

Not talking about VAT (even if you seem totally right about this issue) €250 seems very cheap for a serious treatment especially by Rentokil, they quote around €1600 for a small 2 up 2 down house.

If you have woodworms you would be better off doing the whole house and especially the furniture, which often brings woodworms in the house.
By the way, furniture would not be considered as "immovable", so VAT would be presumably 23% in that case.
    Good luck anyway!

I got the wife to call the guy about it. To my shock he told her it was 23% as they were not treating woodworm just casual intruders inside and out (little brown insects on my feckin window sills). Then he comes up with a price for 600 + 13.5 vat and the cost of getting someone to take up the floor on top of that. Im serverely p!ssed at him for not making clear the woodworm was not being treated in that price even tho he confirmed to me I did indeed have woodworm. Im not paying them 681 to treat 2 rooms when I could do them myself after seening what they are charging.

So far I haven't actualy seen anymore of them topside of the floor and the only furniture in here is the table this PC is on and a unit with books in it and sofa. Il treat the unit, sofa should be alright as the lefs are not real wood and I douth they bore into fabic? Il treat ther unit and table myself along with floor. Might even get floor taken up and get concrete put it as saves the hassle of it being treated in the future.

Right while there may be a tax issue here the post and thread has very little to do with tax and for that reason I'm closing the thread.
