Help me choose a car

I need to buy a car for the OH. She wants something small as she is only learning to drive. The problem is, she has a 50km commute to and from work, all motorway driving (She will be chauffeured to work until she passes her driving test)
I’m trying to keep costs as low as possible so low tax & good MPG is a must. Budget is about 6.5K.
My Question is, what would make economical sense……buying a 1.0L yaris and revving the nuts out of it on the motor way, or picking up a 1.3L Swift? Other car suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks.

1.4 diesel Fiesta cheap as chips to run and Diesels are just better on motorways then petrols good size inside too mate of mine has one albeit in van form (for sale too pm if interested) he was doing similar mileage to your oh reckoned it was costing him 30 to 40 euro a week on diesel.

    something like that

if you are doing long miles everyday, the 1.0L yaris will be soul destroying, and you'd be bleeding from your ears every evening.

my OH has a 1.0L yaris, she does 50km round trip on the m50 every morning. ive tried it once, i dont know how she is standing it to be honest.

its noisy (road noise), the consumption goes right down as she has to floor it (we are though getting 49mpg from the computer, and doing 300 ish miles to the tank, and its costing 55 euros every 6 days of work.

i would not recommend a yaris 99-05 model for that purpose.

we are now going to look for a hatchback (bmw 1, golf, audi a3) as long as its heavier and better soundproofed than a yaris.

dont get me wrong, for little journeys, i love the damn nippy thing, as well as being extremely economical, its so fun to drive, its just for long journeys...

i remember driving it down to limerick and back in a day, with 2 people in the back. - i needed to refuel before coming back, and the 2 people always are finding excuses for not going down to limerick anymore.

    Cheers Mully,
Im not sure if her milage will warrant a diesel. (50*5)*52=13000Km. Although the style of driving will.

@ Spipov......Therein lies the dilemma. We want something small and comfortable at our budget.

a polo / skoda fabia were 2 other small ones we considered. in the end, we went for the yaris because it was the shortest of the 3 (we need to fit 2 cars in one parking slot).

the polo and fabias would be more comfortable. a fiesta shouldn't be discarded easily either

From what i have read i would say a 1.2l fiesta or 1.2l polo fits the bill. Comfortable, simple cars and there are loads out there so take the time and get a good deal. Also they will happily tip along at 100kph down a motorway a little better than a 1.0l.
