How many miles do you cover and how many passengers do you carry?

    Normal driving type(city, country, motorway)

hi it would mainly be county driving, usually 200 or so a week, twice or three times motorway to Dublin and about same to Belfast, would have full car load most times,

I recommend the Citroen C3 1.4 Diesel. Good power to weight ratio so it takes off like stink (compared to the 1.1 petrol), its also very economical & the steering is very light. Only down side is that they are very hard to find in the ROI, so you might have to look North, or to Britain to find one.

    Good luck.

1.6 Diesel Focus. Comfortable, reliable, great economy, good resale value.

I do about 400 miles a week and get by on €50 most weeks. I have a 1.9 Golf and cant fault it to be honest. The tax is high but if you are going fot a 08 then you will have the lower tax i think.

For 200 miles a week you'd be mad to get a modern diesel.

why, most weeks, im putting in 70 plus euro on petrol, its a 1.6 i drive, probably do 400 miles two weeks out of month, trips to Sligo 1.5 hour drive there

Short jounreys and modern diesels don't go well together.

200 miles a week will not warn a diesel up and they will not give good mpg over short distances

That's nearly 15k miles a year. Enough for me to recommend diesel and it would probably be some kind of VAG car with the older 1.9TDI engine in it anyway. You could also look at an Astra with the 1.7CDTi engine in it too. Don't know much about them though.

I'd agree with the 1.9tdi if the original poster is going diesel as it doesn't have a DPF on most models it is fitted to as far as I recall, like a 1.8 diesel focus too which is dpf free too. 200 miles a week most of the time is not good for a particle filter. The average mileage is almost in diesel territory but the usage is wrong if you ask me.

I got a 1.3 CDTI Astra 08 a couple of months ago and I am very happy with it. Im getting over 50 mpg around town better on longer journies. Saving alot since i switched from petrol.
